Google recently announced upcoming changes to the ranking of mobile sites, specifying that it is targeting “sites poorly configured for smartphones.”. » It doesn't take much to conclude that these said sites risk being penalized in mobile search results.
Google becomes more demanding on mobile SEO
In a recent announcement made on the official Google blog dedicated to webmasters, we learn that, shortly, sites not following best practices in terms of optimization for mobile display, risk seeing themselves less well positioned in search results carried out from a smartphone.
The aim is to offer the user a better browsing experience by giving priority to sites optimized for mobile surfing.. The loading speed will also be taken into account, be careful with sites that are too slow.
Few companies follow Google's recommendations
Following this announcement, the Pure Oxygen agency analyzed the sites of 100 top American Fortune companies 500 (as a reminder, Fortune 500 is the classification of 500 first American companies, classified by turnover). Result : almost two thirds of sites do not have a version optimized for mobile and, in the end, only six sites scrupulously follow Google's recommendations.
Optimize your mobile site
Google points out the two most frequent errors, namely : bad redirects and errors 404 that only appear on mobile. If they are the most widespread, these errors are not the only ones. It is important for webmasters to avoid any configuration errors.
